The Vatican has a Website

and it has some usability problems

In contrast to the usual intellectual goodness, I have a lighter post. A friend dropped by the Discord and shared a rant about the Vatican Website by comedian James Donald Forbes McCann [warning: strong language and many references to certain sins]. I thought it would be about the aesthetics of the website. It’s not.

There are genuine usability concerns in the Vatican website - what caught my eye was the several links that 404ed. Apparently, there are also many typos in the documents, which are often copied from scanned PDFs. There’s a lot that could be said about other things - it being not designed for mobile browsers, for example - but those are concerns that require more judgement to fix.

We’re currently discussing potential next steps (browser add-ons? alternately hosted content? emailing some guy?) on our Discord server. It sounds like we’ll be up to James’s challenge.
